Timeline Context
Welcome to the Interactive Timeline of Aeroplanes in the last 120 years. As you scroll down, you will be shown examples of achievements of planes both military and commercial by 20-year intervals i.e. 1900 - 1920, 1920 - 1940... When you scroll, you will also be met with virtual copies of the example plane, either a virtual military plane and a photograph of the commercial plane for that section, or vice versa. The virtual versions are copies of the plane shown that you are able move around, enlarge or reduce. To move around, use one finger on the touchpad/mouse; You would use the same motions as normal for enlarging and reducing. Please note that when moving around the virtual copies, then move around a center point and to move the center point, you need to swipe with two fingers on the touchpad and/or right click and swipe the mouse. Spitfire
Boeing 307
The military plane depicted in this section is the Spitfire, known for its iconic style, more Spitfires were built than any other military aircrafts, and it was one of the first military planes with working machine guns.
The commercial plane depicted in this section is the Boeing 307, known for being one of the first airlines to operate with a pressurized cabin. This meant that the plane could fly at much higher altitudes without the thin and, possibly lack of, oxygen for the passengers.
1940 - 1960

The military plane depicted in this section is the F86 - Sabre, known for being the first swept wing fighter, which means a fighter plane that had wings angled not straight out.
The commercial plane depicted in this section is the de Havilland Comet, known for being the first airliner to have a jet engine, which was much bigger and more powerful than previous engines.
1960 - 1980
The commercial plane depicted in this section is the Concorde, known for being the world's first and only airliner to be supersonic (to break the sound barrier).

The military plane depicted in this section is a Harrier Jump Jet, known for having a jet engine and its incredible vertical takeoff.

The commercial plane depicted in this section is the Boeing 747, known for its iconic style and for having a small top seating section (not a double decker).
The military plane depicted in this section is the Lockheed SR-71, nicknamed 'Blackbird", known for being the fastest jet plane in history.

The commercial plane dedicated in this section is the Airbus A380, known for being the first plane to have double - decker seating
The military plane depicted in this section is the F-22 Raptor, known for being one of the most advanced military fighter jets created.
